The mind-boggling list compiled by renowned music data analytics giants, Chartmetrics
and Soundcharts, also announced Stonebwoy, KiDi, Gyakie, Black Sherif and King
Promise in the Top 5.
Chartmetrics explained that the list was based on the observation of collective
streaming data analytics between January and June 2023 for Ghanaian songs across
selected DSPs, including YouTube, tiktok, Audiomack, Boomplay and Spotify. The
metrics focused on the analysis of streaming data, audience, trends and popularity
gains.
The biggest controversy of all remains Olivetheboy’s spot on the list. Should he have
won it? Did he even deserve recognition in the Top 5? Has he been any better than all
the artistes listed for real or even Gyakie or KiDi? According to Chartmetrics, the answer
is yes.
Goodsin by Olivetheboy is presently the most Shazamed song in West Africa, the
fastest Ghanaian song by a rookie to reach ten million streams, and has the most views
and weightiest impact for a Ghanaian single on Tiktok (2023).
Olivetheboy currently ranks as the fastest growing Spotify artiste, fastest rookie to half a
million views on YouTube, The most streamed and most charted Ghanaian artiste
across West Africa, and currently the most listened Ghanaian creative in Nigeria.
According to Chartmetrics, it is enough feat, clout and numbers to cement Olivetheboy
as Ghana’s hottest artiste so far this year.
