Increasing terms of office for GFA president will create rot – Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe warns

former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has kicked against the extension of the term of office of the president of the association.

This follows the reported proposal by the Executive Council of GFA to increase the two terms already in place to three terms.

Speaking in an interview on the matter, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe says it should not be approved.

According to him, such a move will create a dictatorship.

“I feel that is a wrong way to go because it will create a dictatorship, which will rather worsen the performance of the leader,” the former GFA Chairman told Graphic Sports.

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe added, “One of the reasons why Kwesi Nyantakyi failed was because he allowed the serving of the FA President’s term in the Statutes to be unlimited.

”There are reasons why a timeline is attached to certain positions, that is why presidents are given time to serve.

“That is why in the US when you serve two terms, you don’t serve again, and the same applies to our Constitution here in Ghana.

”I’ll fight anybody who will say it should be changed from two terms to three terms in our Constitution as far as Ghana is concerned.”

Several other people have also spoken against the proposed increase in the term of office of the GFA president.

Meanwhile, the current mandate of GFA President Kurt Okraku is expected to end on October 25, 2023.
