Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu confirmed dead.
Footballer Christian Atsu has been found dead under the rubble of his home almost two weeks after the Turkey earthquake, his agent has confirmed.
Atsu, 31, had played for Chelsea and Newcastle in the Premier League.
The Ghana international had not been seen since the quake that caused the collapse of the apartment in the city of Hatay in which he was staying.
His club Hatayspor initially reported he was rescued “with injuries” but a day later that position changed.
The president of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo also took to social media to express his condolence.
He wrote, “The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away”… Job 1:21
On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I extend sincere, heartfelt condolences to the widow, children and family of our fellow Ghanaian, Christian Atsu, on the sad news of his death. Ghana football has lost one of its finest personnel and ambassadors, one who will be difficult to replace. He will be sorely missed.
May his soul rest in the Bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again. Amen!”.
The body is said to arrive in Ghana soon for burial.
