State Asset Use For Business Freely: Senya Beraku – Good Hope Fort Used By Native For Business

I feel headache always passing by this fort and see how it is handled, my head feels like crashing. Good Hope Fort built in Senya Beraku by the Dutch with permission from Agona Queen in 1704 to serve as the gold trade with Akim, which is of the north of Agona then, is now a business center for a native. The minister of this constituency, Honourable Gizella Agbotui-Tetteh raised concerns in parliament with the vision to refurbish the fort in order to make it a tourist site to generate income for both government and its citizens but to no avail.

The Good Hope Fort needs immediate attention from the government. A State Asset can’t be left in an individuals hand all in the name of business under who’s authorization. Fort Prizenteim at Keta isn’t used for such purpose.

Besides, government or parliamentarians should revisit the concern of the member of parliament of Awutu Senya Beraku during the tenure National Patriotic Party regime to listen to the views raised by Honourable Gizella Agbotui-Tetteh.

Based on her vision and during her campaign tour in the constituency, I attended and attentively listened to her of how when she is voted for will transform this fort to serve as tourist site for attract other walks of life.

In recent times, I paid a visit to inquire about the fort, for an excursion for my school. Mr.Slyvester and his family lives in the fort as their personal resident. The Fort condition and usage is not the best of interest to attract other foreigners.

I am with the view that; government should team up with the member of parliament to ensure the Fort finds its right standing and usage in the community.

In a dialogue with an elderly native of the town to know why the place in
undeveloped-Uncle Joe.

His response, “Senya was discovered before Winneba but today, Winneba is developed than Senya. This community was discovered in the thirteenth century.”
I retorted, What!!!! Thirteenth century…
“Yes,” he responded.
What are some challenges you can point at as the reason for this underdevelopment.
“The fourth republic vice president came from this town. George Andah, the then deputy minister came from here. But non of them think of finding ways to help develop the place.”
Wow! Interested.
“Chieftaincy dispute is another factor”, he added.
I looked fooled hearing him speak. Then I asked finally, what is the way to refurbish this Fort to generate income for the state and the community?
“Government and the member of parliament should come to aid the community in order to negotiate with the chiefs and find a way to refurbish it.”
Thanks very much for your time, Uncle Joe.

You see the urgent need. I totally disagreed allowing native to use historical asset for business. Government should join force with the member of parliament to refurbish the place for educational purposes and other usage. Selling of alcohol and leasing rooms for individuals use should be stopped.
