Inclusion of old musicians in the new artist category is disrespectful – Dj Toxic to VGMA
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has been in the news recently for a controversial decision that has not gone down well with many music enthusiasts. This decision involves the inclusion of old musicians in the new artist category.
DJ Toxic, a popular Ghanaian DJ, has been vocal about his displeasure with VGMA’s decision to nominate a musician who released songs 4years ago under New Artiste of the Year Category.
According to DJ Toxic, this decision is a form of disrespect to up and coming musicians who have worked hard to make a name for themselves in the Ghanaian music industry.
Dj Toxic believes that the inclusion of these musicians in the new artist category sends the wrong message to young musicians who are struggling to make it in the industry.
He mentioned the artist involved should also see it as a demotion to their past or previous works and citing Awura Abena of Agye me nkwa fame as a typical example.
He argued that the inclusion of old musicians in the new artist category is unfair because it denies young artists the recognition they deserve for their hard work and creativity.
He believes that the VGMA should focus on promoting quality music rather than recognizing musicians solely based on their age or status in the industry.
“Nominating someone who released songs 4years ago under New Artiste of the Year Category undermines the hard work of new and upcoming artists who have put in the effort to make a name for themselves in the industry” he added.
