Inspiring Journey of Nyornuzaze Rebecca

In the heart of Ghana’s Volta Region, from the serene town of Anfoega Akukome, comes a voice that is steadily inspiring hope, healing broken hearts, and lifting spirits through gospel music— Nyornuzaze Rebecca.

Born Rebecca Mawule Attakuma, her journey into music and broadcasting is not just one of talent, but of divine purpose, resilience, and a desire to bless lives. Affectionately called Afoefa  or Nyornuzaze by her family during childhood, these names deeply resonate with her identity. As she embraced her calling in music and journalism, she chose the name Nyornuzaze Rebecca —a title rich in meaning. In Akan, Nyornuzaze translates to Obaasima, and in English, Virtuous Lady —a fitting representation of her character and ministry.

A Foundation Rooted in Faith and Family

Rebecca grew up in a strong Christian household where music was part of daily life. Her father, a music lover himself, would entertain the family with rhythmic beats and melodies, igniting a passion in his children. Their home church, Great Commission Church International (GCCI), played a key role in nurturing Rebecca’s gift. By age 12, she had joined the church choir and soon began leading worship with passion and grace, even as the youngest in the music ministry.

Her gift blossomed in school as well, where she frequently led worship sessions during Friday assemblies. “I started writing my own songs when I was in class six,” she recalls. “I was about 10 years old then. Singing in church made people happy—and that blessed me even more.”

A Call Beyond Music

Rebecca’s talent was never just about melodies. It was a spiritual calling. Life threw its share of challenges her way, but in every situation, she turned to God. Through consistent prayer and discernment, she began receiving songs as divine messages. This spiritual connection is evident in her music, which is filled with motivational messages, encouragement, and healing words for the brokenhearted.

“My songs come to me at any time and place,” she shares. “When I hear the voice in my spirit, I sing it out immediately, write it down, and record the tune before I forget.”

She currently fellowships at the Church of Pentecost, E.T. Boye Temple in Amrahia, where she had the privilege of launching her debut album on November 3, 2024.

Musical Growth and Breakthroughs

Having spent ten years in South Africa working as a beautician, Rebecca initially hoped to record her music there, but circumstances redirected her steps. She returned to Ghana in 2015 and pursued Broadcast Journalism, completing her studies in 2017. Her career in media began with the ”Mikafu Mawu” program on Valley View Radio 97.7FM, a platform that would eventually serve as a bridge to her music breakthrough.

A pivotal moment came when gospel artist Minister Shika Azasu introduced her to Ogesam Recordz in Ashaiman, where Rebecca began recording her songs. There, she also met Jake Nene Aryee, who now manages and directs her music videos.

Rebecca specializes in Gospel Highlife a genre deeply rooted in Ghanaian musical tradition and known for its upbeat, danceable rhythms and meditative worship tunes. “I love songs that make people rejoice. Gospel Highlife speaks to both the soul and spirit,” she says.

Achievements and Recognition

Rebecca’s commitment and hard work have not gone unnoticed. She has released one album with eight songs, two music videos, and more on the way. Though she has yet to collaborate with other artists, she composes and writes all her music herself.

In 2021, she won the Most Outstanding Media Personality of the Year at the Ashaiman Excellence Awards, recognizing her role as a radio host and her involvement in digital media. In 2025, she was named The Humble Artist of the Year at the Ebenezer Gospel Music Awards. She has also earned a nomination at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), a remarkable milestone in her journey.

Spreading the Message and Vision Beyond Borders

Rebecca’s ultimate mission is clear: **to share the Good News of Jesus Christ across the world through music**. She believes her songs will soon echo in the hearts and lips of countless people worldwide. “I’m trusting God to travel across Africa and Europe, collaborate with other artists, and promote good music. I also have a dream to establish the Nyornuzaze Rebecca Foundation to support the less privileged.”

A Woman of Many Talents

Beyond music and ministry, Rebecca is a seasoned **broadcast journalist** and an accomplished **beautician**. She uses income from her salon to support her music, and her beauty expertise helps cut costs during events and video shoots. Her ability to balance these roles comes from planning, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose.

Words of Wisdom to Aspiring Musicians

To young artists dreaming of entering the music industry, Nyornuzaze Rebecca offers heartfelt advice:
“Stay focused and work hard. There will be discouragement and distractions, but don’t lose sight of your calling. Let God lead you. If He is with you, no matter how tough the road is, you will make it through.”
