Accra Metropolitan University Meets with GTEC to Advance MSc in Sustainable Development

Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met)’s leadership today held a strategic meeting with officials from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to discuss the proposed launch of a Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable Development. The meeting marks a significant step forward in the university’s commitment to providing forward-looking academic programmes that align with Ghana’s national development agenda.
During the engagement, the GTEC team reviewed the proposed course structure, curriculum content, and institutional preparedness. They expressed strong commendation for the quality and relevance of the programme, highlighting its potential to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to address complex sustainability challenges across sectors.
The discussion also touched on Accra Met’s facilities and learning environment. GTEC praised the university’s infrastructure and the evident efforts to create a conducive space for advanced teaching, learning, and research in sustainability and related disciplines.
In addition to their commendations, the GTEC delegation offered thoughtful recommendations aimed at strengthening the programme’s design and delivery. These included suggestions for enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration, deepening industry linkages, and embedding mechanisms to support student success and institutional growth. GTEC also emphasized the importance of ensuring that the programme contributes meaningfully to national and regional development objectives.
Following the meeting, the GTEC team conducted an on-site inspection of Accra Met’s facilities. The tour covered key academic and administrative areas, providing the Commission with firsthand insight into the university’s readiness to host the new programme.
Accra Met remains committed to working closely with GTEC to finalise the accreditation process. The MSc in Sustainable Development is part of a broader vision to produce graduates who can lead in sustainability-focused roles, both locally and globally.
