Ms. Beatrice Sewor, a Senior Nursing Officer at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, has been named the GRNMA National Best Nurse for 2025. The honour was conferred at the 6th Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Annual National Awards and Dinner Night, held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
Ms. Sewor has dedicated nine years of service to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital and currently serves as a critical care nurse. Her recognition comes on the back of exceptional leadership and commitment during a particularly challenging period for the facility.
Between 2022 and 2024, the hospital faced significant operational difficulties due to insecurity in the area, resulting in the displacement of approximately 14 percent of its workforce and increased pressure on emergency and inpatient services. In response, Ms. Sewor developed and presented a proposal to hospital management that led to the creation of an emergency response team to better handle critical, emergency, and conflict-related cases.
Her initiatives also played a key role in the establishment of a recovery ward within the hospital. These interventions yielded remarkable results, including zero maternal deaths recorded between 2024 and 2025, improved patient care outcomes, and a notable reduction in inpatient mortality rates.
Working within a conflict-affected environment, Ms. Sewor’s achievements underscore the vital role of nurse-led leadership in maintaining high standards of healthcare delivery under difficult circumstances.
Expressing her gratitude, Ms. Sewor thanked the GRNMA, the management and staff of St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, and the local community for their support and the opportunity to serve. She stated that the award has strengthened her resolve to continue advocating for equitable access to quality healthcare, especially for rural and underserved populations.
As part of the recognition, Ms. Sewor was presented with the top prize of a brand-new Toyota Belta.
Now in its sixth year, the GRNMA Annual National Awards and Dinner Night celebrates excellence, innovation, and leadership in nursing and midwifery. The 2025 edition brought together nurses and midwives from all ten administrative regions, alongside key health sector stakeholders, to honour professionals whose contributions have made a measurable impact on healthcare delivery in Ghana.
