Yaa Asantewaa was not a Slay Queen Neither Was She A Prostitute – Shatana

Renowned Ghanaian songstress Shatana has taken a swipe at some female celebrities claiming to be a replica of influential Asante queen and warrior Obaa panyin Yaa Asantewaa of blessed memory.

According to the sister of the late Terry Bonchaka , it suddens her heart when slay queens and prostitutes claim to be the Yaa Asantewaa of this generation.

She mentioned Queen Yaa Asantewaa had a purpose to fight and change the course and also to liberate people from bondage but not to expose her boobs or live a fake lifestyle to empress people.

“Queen Yaa Asantewaa remains a powerful reminder due to her impactful actions in both empowering her people and in tactics against the British arm” she said.

Shatana indicated the late Queen Yaa Asantewaa did not go to the prison because she stood naked in-front her son but fought to defend the Asante Kingdom

However celebrities involved in extravagant and luxurious lifestyles ,breast and butt
enlargement ,drugs,blackmail, and other social vices should cease calling themselves Yaa Asantewaa.

“Queen Yaa Asantewaa was not a slay neither was she a prostitute but she was a hard working woman whose main aim was to make a positive in the society “ she said.

The term ”slay queen” in Ghana has been associated with women who like to show off their luxurious lifestyle even when their living conditions are poor. Nonetheless, the word ”slay” has become a jargon for impressing someone or to look attractive.

There is a school of thought that suggests being a slay queen is nothing bad and doesn’t mean to indulge in indiscriminate sexual relations.

But to Shatana , the country’s slay queens come under the category of prostitution and its weird for any of them to liken themselves to the late queen of Ejisu Yaa Asantewaa.

In a post on Instagram sighted by Virgin Blogger, the adorable songstress wrote “ Women must know those value ,Yaa Asantewaa was not a Slay Queen neither was she a prostitute “

Shatana however admonished Ghanaian women to emulate the life of Queen Yaa Asantewaa and stay focused .

Yaa Asantewaa who was an influential Ashanti queen at the beginning of the twentieth century still remains a powerful symbol today because of her rebellion against British colonialism to defend the Golden Stool.
