Accra Metropolitan University Presents 50 Scholarships to Ghana Police Service

In a landmark move that underscores the growing synergy between academia and national security institutions, Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) has awarded 50 fully-funded scholarships to personnel of the Ghana Police Service. This initiative aims to promote professional development and capacity building within the Service through access to higher education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
A distinguished delegation from Accra Met, led by Prof. Mrs. Goski Alabi, Acting Vice Chancellor, visited the Police Headquarters to formally announce the scholarship package. Other key members of the delegation included Mrs. Adjoa Agyekum and Mr. Kweku Agyekum (Patrons), Dr. Maxwell Dela Yao Gakpo (Dean and Acting Vice President), Dr. Munkaila Abdul (Director of Academics), Mr. Allantee Lawrence (Multimedia Officer), Mr. Abdul Nasr Awal (Digital Media Coordinator), and Mr. Nathaniel Quaye (Public Relations Officer).

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, warmly welcomed the delegation. He was joined by COP Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu, Director-General, Services, and COP Mr. Michael Nketia Frimpong, Director-General, Finance, along with other senior officers from the Police Management Board.
In her address, Prof. Mrs. Alabi reiterated the university’s commitment to national development through strategic collaborations with state institutions. She explained that the scholarships would cover a diverse range of academic disciplines tailored to support the professional growth and future aspirations of police personnel.
As part of the university’s broader vision to promote leadership excellence, Prof. Mrs. Alabi also announced the institution of a new annual honor — “The Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno Leadership Award.” This award, named after the current IGP, will be presented to the best graduating student in leadership at Accra Met’s annual convocation.
In his remarks, IGP Yohuno expressed profound gratitude for the university’s generous offer. He emphasized the transformative potential of the scholarships, especially for officers serving in rural and underserved areas. He further commended Accra Met for setting a remarkable precedent and pledged 24-hour police protection for the university as a gesture of appreciation.
The event concluded with a ceremonial exchange of tokens of goodwill. The IGP presented a commemorative plaque to Accra Metropolitan University in recognition of its impactful partnership with the Ghana Police Service.
