On Campus Vibes on AM Radio, host Roxanne highlighted the impressive achievements of Samuel Naamgwinaa, a first-year student of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT). She spoke about his award-winning Smart Switch, a device that allows users to remotely control and monitor electricity usage, helping reduce energy waste. Roxanne described his innovation as a timely solution that aligns with Ghana’s push for sustainable energy practices.
At just 25 years old, Samuel has already made history by winning the 2024 Presidential Pitch (Season 5), earning GH¢200,000 in prize money and an additional GH¢50,000 pledge from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
His creativity extends beyond the Smart Switch, with inventions such as a fingerprint lock system, portable FM transmitter, liquid detector, and intelligent switch system.
In agriculture, he has developed the NASAT Smart Bed, an automated drying bed designed to protect crops from rainfall while regulating heat for faster and safer drying.
As emphasized on Campus Vibes, Samuel’s story is not just about recognition but about impact. With plans to collaborate with industries to mass-produce his devices, he represents a new wave of Ghanaian innovators determined to solve everyday challenges through technology. His journey serves as an inspiration to young people across the country, proving that with creativity and dedication, innovation can drive national development.
