In a trailblazing move to enhance public service education and professional development, Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) has awarded 20 full tuition scholarships to personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). This historic gesture marks the first time a university has extended such support to the Fire Service.

The announcement was made by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs Goski Alabi, during a strategic meeting between the leadership of GNFS and Accra Met at the GNFS Headquarters.

Prof. Mrs Alabi stated that the scholarships reflect the university’s commitment to public service and lifelong learning.

“We are proud to support the Ghana National Fire Service through these full scholarships. As the first open university to operate primarily online, we’re making education more inclusive and adaptable for professionals across all sectors,” she said.

Accra Met is also considering special tuition discounts for future batches of Fire Service personnel, reaffirming its long-term commitment to this collaboration.
Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, expressed excitement over the development.

“This is a significant milestone for the Service. It’s the first time a university has made such a generous offer, and it reflects the growing recognition of the importance of fire safety and professional training,” she said.

Top-ranking GNFS officers present included DCFO James Owusu-Agyei (Director of Rural Fires), DCFO Heroine Sekyere Boakye (Director of Logistics), DCFO Frances Rockson (Director of Technical Services), DCFO Mark Brako-Appiah (Director of Finance), DCFO Doris Lamptey (Director of Welfare), and DCFO James O. Y. Kwateng (Director of Legal), among others.
